Addams forming parent circle to talk about raising adolescents

Jane Addams Middle School has scheduled a six-week parent circle starting Jan. 26 to help parents navigate their children’s teenage years.

“The teenage years can be very tough to handle at times, but you are not alone,” said Miguel Salinas, behavior specialist at Jane Addams. “We are all in this together and it’s time to support one another.”

Limited to the first 10 Jane Addams parents who sign up before Jan. 23, the program will examine such things as how to get your child to open up to you and advice on how to give appropriate consequences or discipline.

“Maybe you just need a safe place to talk with other parents about raising an adolescent,” Salinas said.

In addition to Salinas, Jane Addams School Counselors Katie Paulson, Angela McCollum, and Amy Haptas, and School Social Worker Collen Porritt, will bring over 50 years of experience working with youth to the circle.

Circle will run from 6 to 7 p.m. every Thursday starting Jan. 26 at the school. Childcare can be provided if needed.

To join the circle, contact Salinas at or 815-372-6367.
